THE ALIENATION OF MEANING

Through the evolution of the times, the meaning of survival for
humans has been changing at different times. In the early days,
humans used fire, drilled wood to make fire, hunted, and created
shelters to survive. In the past, after the industrial
revolution, people worked under capitalism and struggled to fill
their stomachs. In the contemporary context, people work for
themselves and exploit themselves in the field of postmodern
artistic creation. What will happen in the future? As a species,
humans have evolved over time to possess different survival
instincts and skills. In an era of pursuing a higher quality of
life and seeking meaning, how do we get along with ourselves and
face the wide range of demands and challenges? The skills for
survival in different periods have been changing. The meaning of
survival in the past cannot even help people survive today.
People are in a constant struggle to improve their skills and
technology. In this project, I explore the relationship between
the survival skills and meaning of different eras. For example,
we can consider the relationship between how early humans used
fire by drilling wood to get fire and how people use fire today
by using lighters. Through a series of outcomes and performances,
the audience is made to rethink how people have paid attention to
meaning in different eras. Therefore, I have designed a series of
absurd and humorous objects to think about the survival skills of
the past and present, so that people can rethink their situation
and explore and promote a better mental and physical state.
